Kane has endured a difficult season, having been sidelined since New Years’ Day with a torn hamstring tendon and seen Mauricio Pochettino, whom he had a strong working relationship, replaced at the helm by Jose Mourinho. But it is the potential failure to qualify for the Champions League that could prove the decisive trigger for an exit and the striker spoke about his future this week on an Instagram live chat and the overriding message was a mixed one. The striker admitted to being ambitious and said: “I’m not someone to just stay there for the sake of it.” The admission was not really a surprise and Tottenham are apparently well aware of their star striker’s “growing agitation” with a place at Europe’s top table unlikely next season. And while it’s claimed Tottenham “are in a strong position to keep Kane” and are under no pressure to sell the England man, the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester City have all been touted as potential suitors. Indeed, a report last month claimed the 26-year-old had two very strong reasons for wanting to move north to Old Trafford, while there is no doubting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market to strengthen his attack after Euro Paper Talk outlined three striker targets the Norwegian had in mind. However, should the chance to sign Kane arise, he would no doubt leap towards the top of their wanted list; that despite suitors facing a daunting task of “persuading the club to accept anything lower than their £200million valuation”. And according to the Manchester Evening News, United are very much long-time admirers of the striker, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward very much a big fan of Kane. However, as per the report, while Woodward would make ‘every effort’ to try and sign Kane if the opportunity arose, it’s claimed there’s an acceptance with the United chief and the club that his transfer would be extremely difficult to pull off and that Tottenham actually sanctioning his sale to the Red Devils is highly unlikely. As such, the report adds that Woodward has ‘spoken effusively’ about Kane in private. When asked about a potential move for Kane earlier this season, Solskjaer commented: “There aren’t many [Robert] Lewandowskis and Harry Kanes. “They’re like [Alan] Shearer, [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy – fantastic goalscorers “Ours are different types of players, but I have to say I like someone who can finish half a chance and he does that. He’s one of the best, but he’s a Tottenham player.” Agent dismisses chances of Kane joining Juventus as part of swap deal Kane has also been strongly linked with a move to Juventus as Maurizio Sarri’s men look to add increased firepower to their side for next season, but respected agent Frederico Pastorello has seemingly poured cold water on the chances of a swap deal involving Kane and Paulo Dybala this summer. “I don’t know the situation from the inside because I’m not his agent, but Dybala seems to have flourished again. I honestly still see him at Juve,” Pastorello told Tuttosport. “I don’t think the swaps will concern him, Kane or the champions. I think that the clubs, rather than depriving themselves of the best in such operations, perhaps will wait a year longer to aim for a greater collection. I imagine many swaps, however, between the medium-high-end players of the big.” BBC pundit Chris Sutton, meanwhile, believes a move to either City or Liverpool is most likely given Kane’s determination to win trophies. “Spurs are a brilliant club, but at this moment in time they are way behind the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City,” Sutton told the BBC. “If one of those clubs came in for him, if you were Harry Kane you would be stupid not to go.” Paul Merson also last week advised Kane to leave Tottenham in order to win trophies. “I hope that winning trophies is on Kane’s mind,’ Merson told Sky Sports. ‘At the end of the day, these players earn enough to not work another day’s worth when their career is over. I don’t see that happening if he stays at Tottenham under Mourinho. “If he wants to break the record, I think he needs to move on, too. But that would have to be to a Premier League team, so there is a lot for Harry Kane to think about.
