Barca slap €45m price tag on Man Utd, City target after contract talks stall Barcelona have placed a €45million price tag on Nelson Semedo after talks over a new contract stalled, giving Manchester United and City hopes of securing the defender in the next transfer window.  A report in Spanish outlet Sport, relayed on Sempreinter, states that the right back had failed to agree on new terms with the La Liga giants after more than two months of negotiations which could mean his time at the Camp Nou is coming to an end. It adds that his agent, Jorge Mendes, has subsequently asked Barca to consider letting Semedo leave the club, which they are believed to be open to. However, the Catalan club will only allow Semedo to depart if their valuation of the player is met by any bidding clubs, meaning United or City would have to make him one of the most expensive defenders in the Premier League if they hope to secure his services. It was reported earlier this month that City may attempt to sign Semedo in a swap deal that would see Joao Cancelo move the other way. Cancelo is thought to be unhappy in England after struggling to adapt to the style of football in the Premier League as well as life in Manchester following his move from Juventus last summer. Cancelo is also said to be ‘desperate’ to secure a move to Barca having missed out on a move there during his time with Valencia, and these latest developments could mean there is a possibility of that deal taking place in a cash plus player transfer, particularly as the City man shares the same agent as Semedo. United, meanwhile, are also eyeing up a move for the Portuguese international and have been given the green light to make a move for him when the transfer market reopens.   The price Barcelona have set for Semedo may even tempt both teams into making an official move considering the release clause in his current contract, which has another two years left to run, is reportedly a massive €100million. The former Benfica star has impressed during his three years with Barcelona, making 111 appearances and winning five trophies so far. He was keen on extending his stay before entering talks with club officials, but could now make the move to Manchester and strengthen the squad of either Pep Guardiola or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with both managers looking to add to their options for the 2020/21 season.
