Agent clears up reports of Newcastle interest in Danish assist merchant The agent of RB Leipzig midfielder Yussuf Poulsen has denied reports that Newcastle are interested in a deal to bring him to St James’ Park. Reports in German publication SportBild earlier this week indicated that Magpies boss Steve Bruce had been closely monitoring the Denmark international, who has 43 caps for his country. It was claimed that Leipzig were keen to keep hold of Poulsen but would sanction his departure if the right offer arrived. Speaking to Danish news outlet TV2 (via Sport Witness), however, Poul-Erik Petersen insisted that such reports about his client were untrue. “There’s nothing in this context that has anything to do even remotely with him,” the agent said. “There has not been no such contact with the club. I can categorically reject it.” Poulsen, who has assisted 11 goals in all competitions this season, has had his game time restricted under boss Julian Nagelsmann, making only one start in the Bundesliga since the turn of the year. Speaking about whether his client could look for a move away due to his lack of game time, Peterson insisted that Poulsen is happy with his current situation.   “[Leipzig] is an absolute top club in Europe and they are in the Champions League,” he said. “There has to be competition like that somewhere. He has had that challenge before. “I can’t say it more clearly than Yussuf loves to be in Leipzig, and that’s basically what he feels. But if the situation is still the way it is, then it is logical that he will not be a ‘reserve of honour’.” Newcastle sat 13th in the Premier League before the season was brought to a halt last month.
