Juventus have rejected the chance to chance to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona this summer, according to a report.
Calciomercato claim that Juve chief Fabio Paratici had been offered the former Liverpool playmaker at the end of the season, but the Turin club have politely declined the opportunity.
Instead Paratici and boss Antonio Conte believe they have already invested heavily in the club’s future with midfielder Dejan Kulusevski.
Sweden midfielder Kulusevski signed for Juventus from Atalanta in a £29.7m deal in January, penning a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Serie A side but returned on loan to Parma until the end of the season.
Kulusevski has scored five goals and claimed seven assists and has been impressing for Parma with Juve ready to rely on the midfielder for next season.
The report claims Juve will not totally close the door on Coutinho and if Barcelona are willing to take a hit on the Bayern Munich loanee then Juve could still be interested at a knock-down price.
The former Liverpool playmaker moved to Bayern Munich from Barcelona on loan for this season, and the German club have an option to buy at the end of the campaign – but no decision has been made yet.
Despite scoring eight Bundesliga goals and laying on six assists, Coutinho, however, has not been a regular starter and their CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently revealed is yet to be totally convinced by the Brazilian, adding yet more uncertainty to his future.
Should the player return to Barcelona this summer, it’s likely the LaLiga giants will seek to move Coutinho – a £140m investment in January 2018 – on once again. But finding a buyer may prove tricky.
“This is how we do it, always. If nothing happens then it was not the right option for us. We won’t make signings just to sign somebody, that’s it.”
