Pundit warns why Man Utd flop will make Aubameyang avoid Old Trafford Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to have Alexis Sanchez’s downturn in form in mind when he thinks about a move to Manchester United, according to one pundit. Aubameyang has just over a year left on his deal at The Emirates and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has previously urged discussions over an extension to take place. Meanwhile, the Gabonese striker has been heavily linked with a move away from North London with United touted as a possible destination alongside Spanish giants Barcelona. Two previous players to have made the move to United from Arsenal in recent seasons are Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez, although Van Persie fared better than Sanchez by winning the Premier League with Sir Alex Ferguson. Sanchez, meanwhile, suffered a run of poor form – eventually being sent out on loan to Inter Milan – and speaking to Sky Sports, Charlie Nicholas has explained why Aubameyang will take heed of the Chilean’s failure to settle at Old Trafford. “If Aubameyang wants to leave, you ideally want him out of the Premier League. However, he is of a mind and age that I can see the dangers and understand comparisons with Van Persie,” the pundit said. “However, I think he will be thinking about what happened to Alexis Sanchez rather than Van Persie. Would he want to be a part of a superstar reload at Manchester United? “Is there a great appeal to that? If it was Liverpool or Man City I would get it, but Manchester United are miles away from the top two. I do not see the appeal of moving to Old Trafford. “Would he win the title with United in the next few years? I don’t think so. He might not even be in the Champions League if he was to join so what is the real appeal? Is it salary? I don’t think he is that type.     “Van Persie jumped to a massive salary, but Manchester United are not the same calibre as what they were then. Would he be the cutting edge for them? Maybe. But, like Arsenal, I think they have other issues to address. “If Arsenal were to get £100m for him to go there, I would take that. Arsenal were once the challengers to United for the title, but now neither of them are. If Man Utd offer £100m for Aubameyang, sell him.” Aubameyang has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season having scored 17 Premier League goals. In other news, former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has said that Jadon Sancho would not think twice about moving to United if given the chance. The Red Devils have been strongly linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund winger in recent months.
