Jurgen Klopp facing Mo Salah ‘catastrophe’ ahead of Liverpool’s 2021 season Jurgen Klopp is facing a huge selection problem next season, which could see Mo Salah potentially missing for three or four months. The 91-goal Liverpool forward could well play for Egypt at the African Cup of Nations, followed by the rearranged Olympic Games. Egypt will almost definitely call upon Salah, 27, as one of their overage players at the Tokoyo Olympics, which was postponed earlier this week. Egypt Under-23s coach Shawky Gharib said: “I expected the Olympics postponement. And this won’t interrupt our plans. We have a Plan B. “The lives of the people are more important than sports, and the decision is good for the world. “Salah is one of the best players in the world and any coach would like to invite him to his team, so our door is still open.” Just when the Olympics will be rescheduled is not yet known, but next spring has been suggested under radical IOC proposals. IOC president Thomas Bach said earlier this week that the organisation would “take into account the sports calendar”.       Bach said: “Contacts were already made yesterday by telephone. As a first step, we have to see what the options are. And after having consulted with them, we also have to take into account the sports calendar around the Olympic Games and many, many other issues. “I think we should come to a solution as soon as possible, but the first priority should be the quality of this decision and the ability to take the input of all the stakeholders into account: the National Olympic Committees, the athletes, the partners. Of course, the Organising Committee is also key in this.” Added to that, the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon has already switched from the summer to next January and February – a move that Klopp labelled a “catastrophe” and an “obvious problem”. “For us, it’s a catastrophe. If we say he can’t go, he’s suspended. How can the club who pay his salary not decide?” said Klopp in January. The tournament will run from January 9 to Februay 6 and it could see Salah missing for more than four weeks, while Senegal star Sadio Mane, Cameroon defender Joel Matip and Guinea midfielder Naby Keita will also likely be called up.
