A deal never happened though with Inter Milan finally wrapped up a transfer for Lukaku, worth a reported €80m with a sell-on clause inserted, with United told that Brazilian Costa was not for sale – a fact now backed up by Costa’s agent Giovanni Branchini. “I sincerely say that Allegri and Sarri have never thought of letting him go,” Giovanni Branchini told the Daily Mail. “The interest of Manchester United was strong, a club that has always been interested in the Brazilian. “It was not the only club but in England it was certainly the most active team on the trail of Douglas Costa.” Costa suffered from ankle, calf and hamstring problems last season which meant he started only 10 games all season and he played only half an hour from February on. limiting the amount of game time he received, and United looked to take advantage of this as they went in search of star names to bolster their attack. Costa returned to fitness over the summer and has played twice this season and collected two assists. He joined Juventus on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich for £35million in the summer of 2018, having spent the previous year on loan in Turin.
