Worrying admission, as time ticks down on star’s Liverpool career James Milner has admitted he is in the dark over his long-term future at Liverpool. The club’s vice-captain has one year remaining on the deal he signed in 2015, but so far no offer of a new contract has been forthcoming. The 33-year-old has been a growing influence in the last few seasons at Anfield and earlier this month he came top of Liverpool’s pre-season fitness testing among the 16 players who reported back initially. Milner said: “Last year we spoke to the club and asked them if they wanted to do something and they said not. “We haven’t heard anything since, so that’s where we are at. “There are three things to it: availability, fitness and performance level. Hopefully I am delivering all three.   “All I can do is concentrate on my football and do what I can. But in terms of where I am with my contract, that’s what has happened up until now and I haven’t heard anything from the club.” Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Milner, but he will turn 34 in January, and it’s clear that Liverpool are wary of offering him a long-term deal. Klopp said recently: “Millie looks again in the pre-season like [he’s in] in his early 20s; but he isn’t, he knows that, and we try to respect that. But he is not only in the game not really stoppable, in training it’s the same. All good.” Milner, who was recently linked with Paris Saint-Germain and earlier in the summer with a return to Leeds, is focused extending his career, but Liverpool’s American owners Fenway Sports Group are reluctant to offer long deals to players over 30. Asked if he can play on for more years, Milner added: “I’d like to think so. “There are players coming through now who weren’t even born when I first played. It’s all right until you get into pre-season and you are doing the medical tests. They get asked when they were born and you hear their date of birth and you’re like, oh God! “Listen, I remember making my debut and how lucky I was to have senior players around me. If I can be half as good with these guys as the older players were with me at Leeds, I will help them as much as I can.” The post Worrying admission, as time ticks down on star’s Liverpool career appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
