United failed in a £70m approach for Maguire last week – but they do appear to be alone in the race as Manchester City are believed to have withdrawn their interest. Now, The Sun claim that United are hoping the presence of Mike Phelan as assistant may tempt Maguire to make the move as the pair worked together at Hull City. Hull were promoted to the top flight in 2015/16, and Phelan took charge once Steve Bruce left the club, and Maguire had a stellar campaign for the Tigers the following term. The report goes on to add that the Foxes ‘do not need to sell and Maguire’ and are ‘holding out for a world record fee’ which could be ‘as much as £90m’.
