Liverpool have contacted FIFA after Bobby Adekanye completed his move to Lazio, claims a report.
Adekanye has moved to Serie A on a free after his deal at Anfield expired, but the Evening Standard claim that Liverpool “expressed concern to FIFA” that the 20-year-old could have been tapped up.
Adekanye ended a four-year stay at Anfield on Wednesday with the Rome-based side paying just £242,000 for the player to cover training costs.
Liverpool though are concerned that Lazio contacted the forward, while he was still under contract which contravenes FIFA rules, which state clubs are not allowed to talk to players under the age of 23 in the final six months of their contracts.
Adekanye himself admitted Lazio had been in touch with him when he gave an interview to Voetbalzone.nl in March.
He said: “That I’ve reached an agreement with Lazio is not at all the case.
“They’re one of the clubs that is interested but it is not yet 100 per cent decided.
“I also heard from Barcelona, in the Netherlands Willem II came by. I can’t name the entire list of clubs now, because then we will be busy tomorrow.
“But there is interest from, among others, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.
“In the summer I am going to talk about it with my family and business manager Junior Minguella. I am not worried that I have no club.”
The Netherlands youth international rejected several offers of a new contract at Anfield because of concerns over a lack of first-team opportunities.
Liverpool have yet to decide whether to make an official complaint to the world governing body.
