A club statement read: “In his role at Dundee, he will focus on helping the club develop the best young players that we can while working closely with head of academy Stephen Wright and the other coaches in the academy set up. “His knowledge, experience and contacts in the game will be a huge asset to the academy structure at the club.” Strachan’s appointment comes just three months after he compared convicted sex offender Adam Johnson to black footballers who suffer racist abuse. “If he goes on to the pitch and people start calling him names, have we got to do the same as it is to the racist situation?” Strachan asked. “Is it alright to call him names now after doing his three years – have we got to allow that to happen?” A Sky spokesperson attempted to distance the company from Strachan’s views and the 62-year-old has not appeared on Sky since. “Of course Sky Sports does not support the comments and we’re sorry for the offence they have caused,” they said.
