Sky Sports link Man Utd with midfielder with 9 PL appearances Manchester United have shown an interest in Newcastle central midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to a report. Sky Sports News has reported that the 21-year-old is wanted by United, who are looking for new recruits this summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing youthful, home-grown this summer and with Ander Herrera departing and Juan Mata’s future far from assured he will need to add at least two midfield players. The report claims Newcastle say they have had no official approach from United and Longstaff, who has come through the academy on Tyneside. Wagstaff, who was loaned to Blackpool last season, has enjoyed a breakthrough season under Rafa Bentitez and has earned praise for his mature performances in the middle of the park. Still, Longstaff has only made nine Premier League appearances and his season was cut short when he suffered a knee ligament injury during Newcastle’s defeat to West Ham in March. Injuries to Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame and Ki Sung-yueng handed Longstaff a chance and he did not look out of place in games against Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City. In fact after the impressive win over the champions in January, Pep Guardiola said: “We could not deal with Newcastle’s holding midfielders. “We started with the goal but we didn’t have the rhythm we need to impose our game. We didn’t take the rhythm of the game, it was slow and we weren’t aggressive enough.” Benitez also echoed that praise of Longstaff. “Talking with Sean he is fine and he is mature enough,” said Benitez. “He is somebody who will continue to get better because he listens to you and works hard. He’s very humble.”   The post Sky Sports link Man Utd with midfielder with 9 PL appearances appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
