Ole Gunnar Solskajer admitted he may have to change things for the return leg after losing 1-0 at home to Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final.
Manchester United failed to muster a shot on target – the first time they have ever failed to do so at home in the Champions League since Opta stats began – as they lost out to an own goal at home against Lionel Messi and co.
United fell behind in the 12th minute when Messi crossed for Luis Suarez and his header back across goal was headed past David De Gea by Luke Shaw.
Barca were far from their best and Messi never seemed to recover from a bang on the nose from Chris Smalling in the first half, with Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague claiming the Argentinian was “actively resting”.
Solskjaer told BT Sport: “The goal was a little bit fortunate, but it was great link up play between the two strikers. They didn’t create too many chances and neither did we.
“Scott McTominay was fantastic. Every time he plays for us he is improving. He’s a great athlete, wins his challenges and quick on his feet. He started settling us to be fair.
“We played a good team. We know you have to defend a lot without the ball and you might be tired when you get the chance yourself. We go there with one thing in my mind, we have to score.
“We did as well as we could against Messi, kept our shape well. It could have gone both ways. I don’t think we hit the target and that’s a disappointment. We go there with work to be done but chances.
“We’re playing against a great team. It’s a tough one, we’ll go there with the knowledge we can score over there.
“We’ll look at doing something different, because we have to go there and score a couple of goals. We have to keep positive.”
