Klopp comments on talk Mo Salah may be excused Egypt duty Jurgen Klopp gave little away at Melwood on Friday when he was asked about Mo Salah’s impending international call up. The Liverpool striker is set to be called up by Egypt next month for two games – one of which is an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Javier Aguirre’s men face Niger away on March 22 and then take on Nigeria in a friendly four days later – meaning a round trip of more than 8,000 miles in the midst of the Reds’ title charge. There have been suggestions that Salah will not be called up by Aguirre with EhabLehita, director of the Egyptian national team, claiming domestically-based players would be given a chance. “The clash against Nigeria will be a good chance for many players to prove their abilities and wear the national team’s jersey. Aguirre is following all the games at the domestic league to add many players to the national team’s squad,” EhabLehita told ON Sport. Asked though if it was official that Salah would not be called up by the Egyptian FA, Klopp said: “No. No contact yet and Mo didn’t say anything. So we will see.” Asked if it would be beneficial, Klopp did not respond, but he smiled and shrugged his shoulders. Salah has hit 19 goals in 33 games, along with eight assists for Klopp’s men this season, on the back of a 43-goal haul last term.
