Ed Woodward says Man Utd intent on changing structure Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward hinted that work is going on behind the scenes with regard to appointing a director of football at Manchester United. It is widely understood that United are looking to appoint a head of football now that Jose Mourinho has gone. The Portuguese boss was not keen on working with anyone in that role, but his December sacking has led the club into another way of thinking. Woodward is understood to be looking for a suitable candidate before the club make a call on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term future at Old Trafford. United have been linked with Roma’s respected sporting director Monchi, while former Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta and current Old Lady sporting director Fabio Paratici are also thought to be in the frame. However, last month The Independent – who were first to break the news about Solskjaer’s appointment as interim manager – claimed United were readying an approach for RB Leipzig’s Paul Mitchell. “With regards to the the director of football, lots has been written about this,” Woodward said during the United investors’ call in which he revealed contract talks with the likes of David De Gea and Marcus Rashford were “a long way through”. “I would say that looking at our structures and looking at how we should strengthen, all areas of the club is something we’re doing on a continual basis. “We’ve done a lot of changes within the football side in the last four or five years, in particular around the academy, where we’ve materially increased investment and we’re seeing the quality of that now coming on. “On the football side, we’ve invested around the recruitment side, the player care side, continued investment with facilities, medical and sports science, so the evolution is continuing. “It’s not necessarily that visible to the outside and, in some respects, you get a multi-year return later on [rather] than an immediate impact. But in regards to the overall structure, we are looking at that (the head of football role) and ways we can make it stronger and it is something we’ll do on a continual basis.” Get the latest personalised Red Devils products on our new TEAMtalk Man Utd shop!   The post Ed Woodward says Man Utd intent on changing structure appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
