Sean Dyche hailed Burnley’s mentality after they became the first team to take points from Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League this season.
Burnley looked on course to be the next team in a long line of victims at Anfield when Liverpool took a one-goal lead into the break after a dominant first-half performance.
However, a well-taken Jay Rodriguez strike, as well as a string of fine saves from Nick Pope, ensured Burnley took a share of the spoils back to Turf Moor.
The Clarets even had a chance to win it late on when Johann Gudmundsson hit the bar. However, Dyche accepted that the draw was what Burnley deserved.
“We hit the bar late on but I think three points would have been over-egging it,” Dyche admitted to BBC Sport. “We defended well and our keeper played well.
“They’re a fine side, they’re all over you so quickly and we couldn’t get a foothold in the first half.”
The Burnley manager revealed that his half-time team talk gave his players the message to play with freedom. It paid off, as they managed to get back in the game – and stay there.
“Second half I reminded them that the pressure was off, just go and play,” Dyche added. “Get it forwards and ask them more questions. You’ve got to find a moment, and we’ve been great at that.
“It’s down to the players, we have built a mentality over time and they are delivering it with aplomb. We had some really good chances and we’ve taken one of them against a top, top side.
“Nick Pope makes saves, he’s a top keeper.”
