Arsenal set for loan U-turn after defender ‘angered’ at club’s stance Arsenal are set to make a U-turn on their decision to block William Saliba’s stay with Saint-Etienne, claims a report. The Gunners released a statement last week to explain why Saliba would not be extending his loan with the Ligue 1 side. Arsenal were accused of “imposing absolutely unacceptable sports and financial conditions” by Saint-Etienne over the extension of Saliba’s loan. The centre-half joined Arsenal last summer for £27m but was loaned back to the French club in a deal that expired on June 30. He was expected to extend his loan until the end of July so that he could play in the French cup final on July 24. However, Arsenal asked  for a “clear training path” which the French club could not provide. Now though, L’Equipe say that Arsenal could back track on that decision that is believed to have “angered” Saliba. According to the French outlet, the latest meetings have been positive and talks have reached an “advanced” stage with the 19-year-old set to sign an extension to his loan. The teenager is now expected to return to Saint-Etienne before the end of this week. Throughout the talks, Arsenal refused to agree to the payment of a €2.5m bonus, which they would owe the French club if he started in the cup final against PSG.   ‘I think he needs to stay there’ The centre-half joined Arsenal last summer for £27m but was loaned back to the French club.
