Writing on wall for Liverpool hero as trusted source suggests January exit Divock Origi’s time as a Liverpool player could be coming to an end after a trusted source suggested two reasons why his time at Anfield may soon be over. Origi has proved the Reds‘ senior back-up to their famed front three in recent seasons. Indeed, he cemented that role last season due to Xherdan Shaqiri’s injury struggles. However, Diogo Jota‘s £41million arrival from Wolves has caused a shift in boss Jurgen Klopp’s thinking. The Portuguese forward has already made eight appearances, scoring three goals at Anfield. Origi, meanwhile, was not in the squad for Saturday’s clash with Sheffield United and has only otherwise made the bench in the Premier League. Reports in Belgium earlier this week claimed  it is ‘quite possible’ that the Belgium international could leave when the transfer window re-opens. What’s more, Klopp could opt to send Origi out on loan, perhaps in a bid to help him rediscover his form. Now the Liverpool Echo have also suggested Origi’s time at Anfield could be up.     Their article claims the striker faces a major decision on his future with two factors likely to lead to an exit. With Jota’s arrival having further damaged his first-team chances, the paper points to an incident in the 1-0 Champions League win over Ajax. During the game, Klopp decided to bring off all three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah. However, instead of bringing Origi on, Klopp turned to Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Jota instead. That left, according to the paper, Origi in the stands and seriously contemplating his future. Furthermore, with the European Championships scheduled to take place at the end of the season, Origi needs minutes to secure his place in Belgium’s squad. Roberto Martinez did call Origi up for the September internationals. However, he failed to get any minutes under his belt in another indication his star is fading.   Subscribe to TEAMtalk’s daily newsletter…   Klopp on Origi situation Origi is a cult hero at Anfield. Klopp on Origi situation

Marko Grujic, Divock Origi

Origi is a cult hero at Anfield. The Belgium scored twice in the memorable 4-0 Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona in 2019. He also netted in the 2-0 final victory against Totttenham.

But it seems a move away may be best for all parties when the window opens in January.

Speaking after the 7-2 win, Klopp said: “In terms of individual performances, Div hadn’t played for a while. He did absolutely okay.”
